There is something about Evelyn Hugo that is so magnetic. There is something about her that inspired me to reinvent myself and the way I look at life. There is something about Evelyn Hugo that I wanted to become like her.
“People are messy, and love can be ugly. Im inclined to always err on the side of compassion”
-Evelyn Hugo
Marilyn Monroe. The entire time that I was reading the novel all I could think of is Marilyn Monroe. I have this deep fascination and interest on her for years now that I used to buy every magazine and books that is about her. My love for Old Hollywood started with her and Evelyn reminded me of once again how enigmatic or cruel their lives as a sex bombshell is. You can get out successfully just no guarantee whether you’d be dead or alive by then, that behind every sparkle there is a dying light that’s shouting for “HELP” but seems like nobody could hear. I have only read this book for a total of 4 days and its definitely, an absolute page-turner. Evelyn is tough, she is wise, she used her charm in a way to survive life, she used the same people who have used her and it’s not a mistake indeed, to benefit from each other is I believe a showcase of a great partnership, don’t you think? There is something about this story that is so unique that even after days of finishing it I am still attached to the story and the characters. One thing that I love about this novel too is Diversity, very much applicable in today’s generation. Acknowledging same sex relationships and how the society have handled it back then is such an eye opener and knowledgeable. It showed us the in-depth problems most closeted LGBTQ community members faces and the ridiculous part is that it is still a dilemma til this day.

The Beauty and Power that Evelyn Hugo showcased is beyond normal. I don’t think I have the right word to describe how her character is so infectious. Reading the novel feels like I am also living within her. If you must ask me, I honestly have avoided reading this book for quite some time. I thought it would be quite cheesy and may be a bit boring because who cares if someone have had 7 husbands, but then I thought again, 7 husbands, that is not normal isn’t it? Like it would take such bucket full of charm in able for a person to ignite a spark of 7 men deciding to marry her and also because I thought it is quite Scandalous. Everybody loves a good scandal. Don’t even dare denying it. And as I go through chapter every chapter, if this book could speak it could have given me a lot of “I told you so” as I go by. The only thing that I could think of right now as I write this review is that I wish Evelyn didn’t do what she did when the story is almost over. I wish she kept going, I wish she waited for her time. But you cannot blame her though. All of her loved ones, the ones who knows and accepted the real her for whatever being she is have already left. Gone with the wind if you like to put it that way. She have lived a good life. Evelyn Hugo made me realize that it is not about the number of years you have lived, it is about the quality of life and it gotten to the point where life doesn’t feel like serving anymore and that’s why she decided to leave that way. Life is unfair. It is complicated too. But we have to learn how to survive it. Life is a roller coaster, face your fear and enjoy the ride.
