Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides |Book Review

Posted on March 12, 2025March 28, 2025 by Clara

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides is one of those books that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The story is about Alicia Berenson, a famous artist who is found standing next to her husband’s body after he’s been shot multiple times in the face. The creepy part? Alicia doesn’t say a word after the murder—she just goes completely silent. The whole thing becomes a media frenzy, and Alicia gets sent to a psychiatric facility. The book follows Theo Faber, a forensic psychologist, as he tries to figure out why Alicia did it and why she’s silent. It’s a thrilling, twist-filled ride from beginning to end.

One of the things I loved about The Silent Patient is how the story is told through Theo’s perspective. He’s obsessed with Alicia’s case, and as he digs deeper into her past, the mystery unfolds in the most unexpected ways. The pacing is spot on, with suspense building up throughout the book. Michaelides really knows how to keep you guessing. I kept trying to figure out the twist, but the ending totally blindsided me. I did not see that coming!

The characters are so well done, especially Alicia. Even though she’s silent through most of the book, her past and her emotions speak volumes. Theo is a bit of a mess himself, which makes him all the more interesting. The way the author explores their psychological struggles and the trauma they both carry adds a lot of depth to the story. It’s not just a murder mystery—it’s about understanding what drives people to do the unthinkable.
